Excellent topic lurkette.
I can remember as a kid (I'm dating myself here), the biggest and best part of the holiday shopping was the Sears catalogue, which had a huge selection of toys. Those days, if it existed, it was in the Sears catalogue.
I can't recall even seeing that catalogue before Thanksgiving, yet somehow everything got done right when it was supposed to. Now the competitive greed has pushed things back into September, as retailers try to shove more and more crap down consumers throats.
