I just saw the original version of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and was completely amazed and fucked. It's amazing how many other movies since this one have obviously been influenced by it... and for just being sheer fucked up and scary, it does it so damn well. Aside from maybe the first Friday the 13th no movie has set the tone so well and gotten me into the mindset to piss my pants so well...
