I grew up next door to a Vietnam Vet. As a teenager when I did history papers I often would use him as a rescource. I came to appreciate what the soldiers especially in that war went through. It was probably the hardest situation to be in of any War that I know of. Our soldiers were fighting an enemy that didn't even value their own life. Going into battle against an enemy that would stoop to any level. Fighting in an extremely harsh environment and constantly being ambushed by the enemy who knows the environment so much better.
I never said that the cruelty that the soldiers showed was right. I don't condone it. I don't want those soldiers who enacted that kind of cruelty to "punish" our other soldiers for serving their country. What's done is done and we cannot undo it. We need to be thankful for what our servicemen and women do for us. They keep us from having to deal with a war on our own soil by showing their strength in other areas. There will always be contraversy and opposition to every war. I won't criticise those who go to war for our country. If anything I would criticise those who send them - they make the decision.
