Searching for work is as much about who you know as what you know. I've found this especially applicable in part time or seasonal work.
If you really are prepared to do any sort of work, try to befriend your local newsagent, pizza shop owner, bar owner.. etc. If you really feel that your destiny lies at Costco, try talking to some of the staff in the front of the store.
And remember that nobody likes a smartarse. Try lying about your qualifications if you really think that is what is holding you back.
