OK,
Uni (sea urchin roe) is perhaps the nastiest thing I have ever eaten. It smells like low tide, has the consistency of baby shit, tastes like naugahide marinated in swamp water with a Ty-d-bowl puck. And the best part is, once you choke down the uni and rinse it with the suchi rice, there's this loop of sushi nori soaked in essence of uni stuck to the roof of your mouth like a piece of electrical tape used to trim Roseanne's bikini line. Absolutely foul.
Tobiko, however, is good stuff. Same with Eel (but I think I'll skip the whole one - fish bones don't make it in my book. Like eating an eyebrow.) I also had a concotion of sushi rice, chopped scallops, scallion, smelt roe and mayonnaise that tasted very much like blackberry ice cream.
Strangest cut of meat I ever had was Calf's Thyroid: Sweetbreads. Texture of a liver souffle, taste of veal lightly dusted with malt sugar. Good stuff.
Finally, the oddest thing I ever ate was a mouthful of naugahyde and foam rubber; Someone said a couch was eating me, so I retaliated.
