I played violin and then viola when I was younger. Yea, I know, both very "cool and hip" instruments.
I didn't really enjoy going to lessons and practicing, but my parents made me stick with it, and I guess it was a good experience now that I am done with it.
I played in a local orchestra and don't consider myself to be much better than average, but the change over to viola did allow me to experience more, as the competetion wasn't as great. There aren't as many violists as violinists around here.
I am in college now, and not playing any instruments. I did take one or two piano lessons as a kid, but they didn't amount to much.
Playing a musical instrument is a fun and very rewarding experience, I just don't think I was "into" it enough to do well and sustain interest past high school.
