Rap is no different from any other genre, there is good rap and bad rap.
Unfortunately it seems that the music industry insists on marketing poor quality, and that hurts the enjoyment of the genre. This is no different from rock and pop though.
True talent you have to look for, away from MTW and marketig hype.
Without having checked it out myself, i would imagine K-Wise's list to be a good starting point
