Had a card that was maxed out and the monthly fees took it over the limit each month making it harder and harder to get ahead of it with over limit fees and such being added each month. Cut it up made a deal with the card company and finally got it paid off I went with out one for over 8 years then got one to reserve hotels and emergency travel expenses (I travel a lot for work independent contractor). I learned from the first one how to handle them and pay balance each month. It is nice to know it is there in an emergency and have to really weigh whether it is an emergency or just an inconvenience before I charge.
