I got back about two weeks ago from a month long trip to Europe. I went to Paris, Coppenhagen, Prague, Amsterdam, all over Germany, Ireland, and Belgium.
We used the Eurorail where we could and stayed in hostels most of the time. All the hostels were pretty clean and affordable.
Night trains are the best for long distances, saves alot of time to see more instead of traveling.
We used a Rick Steve's Europe thru the back door and was able to see alot of things that weren't just tourist traps.
My two favs were Brugge (near Brussels) and Prague.
