Blood or DNA test could prove the man was the father. If it turns out he is, good luck avoiding child support. The laws are pretty strict in these cases and judges are not forgiving.
I knew a guy who worked full-time,was faithfully paying child support to one mother of his kids, and his current girlfriend took him to court for child support of their child. Knowing what he already was paying and his income level the judge set the new child support amount over the guy's income amount. Needless to say the guy ended up in jail for failure to meet his obligations but he never had a chance.
Not condoning having kids you can't pay for but when you present all the facts to a judge and the system does that to you I think its pretty shitty.
