They thought they were going to see a romantic comedy staring Chirstina Ricci and the Guy from American Pie. The advertisers made next to no comments about it being a Woody Allen film. The ad campaign was different from any Woody Allen film I have seen in the theater.
The theater was full of teenagers when I saw it too, and as soon as Woody's face popped up on the screen the girl behind me moaned "oh man HE'S in this movie?"
I giggled.
When it ended about half the audience sighed "thank god"
I liked it, but I am a Woody Allen freak. It was better than his last few offerings, Sweet ANd Lowdown, Curse of the Jade Scorpian, Small TIme Crooks, and the piece of trash, Hollywood Ending.
So it was his best since Celebrity, which I loved.
