Uhm... you need to connect two wires to complete the circuit... and you won't kill them or hurt them... regular electrical outlets don't have enough power to light you on fire (which would take an insane amount of current)... the current will take the shortest path through the hand and won't pass through the chest and reach vital organs. It won't even go deep inside the hands because the shortest path is straight through the doorknob.
You may however get lucky if they take a two handed grip on the doorknob really quickly :-)
