Now I know how Cubs and Red Sox fans feel.
The Yankees actually outscored the Marlins 21-17 in the series. But when it counted, they didn't produce. They never recovered physicaly and emotionally from the REAL World Series, the ALCS. They left their bats in Boston and a total of 91 men on base. The fish were supposed to be dessert, instead they were janitors, mopping up what was left of the Yanks.
I am truly pissed about one thing. Had the Yankees won the series in Miami they would have treated Pro Player stadium with a bit more respect though, even though a 10 year old FOOTBALL stadium is definitely not Yankee Stadium. Jeffrey Loria, the man who destroyed baseball in Montreal, running the bases? Marlins ripping up pieces of the infield grass? Beckett chugging a 40 at home plate? Pierre and Pudge taking pictures with the monuments like they were pictures of Saddam in Baghdad? That's what hurts the most, not so much the series loss. For that, the Marlins will deserve what's coming to them, which is a last place division finish next year. Well, they might finish ahead of the Mets. But not by much.
