1. clean
2. tone
3. exfoliate
4. moisturize
1. Soap can work but it can overdry your face. Use something else that's oil-free if looking in the general direction of a pizza makes you break out. Lather with warm-hot water for best results.
2. Toning is optional (closing up pores), helps some people and hurts others. It doesn't work for me but if you want to, use something like witch hazel that doesn't contain alcohol because it sucks the moisture out of your face.
3. Exfoliate - clear off the dead skin with a loofa or something scrubby. I use a daily wash that has some gritty stuff in it (daily pore cleanser with micro-crystals) so it's a 2-in-1 clean and exfoliate.
4. Moisturize! Do it. When you clean your face it clears away the oil and your skin dries up. And your skin's response? "Need moisture! More oil!" And you break out. So if you clean you MUST moisturize. This step you can never ever skip or you will be worse off than before. Use cold water here.
Guys don't worry, if you want a clean face but not much hassle and "girly stuff" just do step 1 and step 4. Not as effective but still works. Just clean with a face soap and moisturize with moisturizer. I recommend oil-free face moisturizer and oil-free pore cleanser.
Easy/quick/lazy method:
Clean your face in the shower and then go to the sink, splash cold water, apply a pea-sized amount of moisturizer and you're done for the day.
