They had talked about some of Newmans edge being a smaller carb, but I don't think that is all of it. I think something is fishy, especially considering Dodge is notorious for getting the worst fuel economy of the three engines used in NASCAR.
One of the things that has helped them is they are willing to gamble, and have been EXTREMELY fortunate that caution flags and what not have worked in their favor. Also, the aero rules being what they are, the only was your car will run fast is being out in front, Newman doesn't get through traffic exceptionally well.
