If you truly love someone, you never "get over it", you just learn to deal with it.
I've only been in love twice, and I'm lucky enough to be married to my second love. While my first relationship only lasted maybe 6 months, I know that the love I felt for her was true and I still feel it sometimes. Don't get me wrong, there were times I felt really angry and I don't think I'll ever fully forgive her for how she dumped me, but eventually I learned to accept these feelings and realized that they will always be a part of me.
Even before meeting my wife, I knew that falling in love the first time was not a mistake because dealing with the break-up and the healing process afterwards played a big role in shaping the person I am today. I'm very happy with the way I am now, so that also means that having loved and lost was a good thing for me in the big picture.
