Hmm, I feel bad for neglecting REM recently. Automatic For The People was excellent, I think that raised my hopes a bit too high for their following releases. I bought Monster and Up, they are pretty good, but I like the older sounds. Maybe I owe it to myself to get a new album and try it out, maybe I'll be pleasanly surprised. It's hard to believe their newest didn't even hit gold status.

On a side note, Michael Stipe came up with the name for the band Concrete Blonde, which is on the top 3 list of my all time favorite bands, and Peter Buck played a little on their album "Bloodletting" which is an excellent album.
