I don't think the solution lies in "more" minorities. I think it lies in better portrayals of the ones that are there already. I can't stand how they insert a minority character into a story, and the character just sticks to the stereotypes. I see this especially with gay people in the media. The gay people I know, are quite offended and annoyed at how they are portrayed. They just play out stereotypes. I was surprised when one of my friends came out and he wasn't very good at matching his clothes and keeping his room tidy and didn't sing showtunes, and could give two shits for parades. Okay I wasn't really surprised, but I was surprised to hear him rant every time he watches tv. They portray asians as always being somewhat nerdy, black guys as party animals and sports-freaks, latinos as having a temper, and italians as always being shady. These are okay to see every once and a while, but surely they could mix it up a bit. Maybe I'm wrong but I think there are all shades of personalities within all shades of skin.
