Neverwinter Nights, Dungeun Siege, and Morrowwind are the recent ones. I dont like them. I can however see why people like them though. Diablo 2 was fun though. you are right about the japanese and american style differences. I have noticed that a lot. PC RPG's are great for complete customization of characters and stuff but i just cant get into them just like i could never get into those board game type RPG's like D&D.
