First of European Jews didn't magically show up. Zionism and the purchase of land legally had been going on for almost a century. Secondly the Jews never put any Palestinians in refugee camps. It was the Arabs that put the Palestinians in refugee camps.

They are legally and morally well within their rights to defend their citizens by any means necessary. Kinda funny how the Arabs and Palestinians started the fight but were unable to finish it. Israel never wanted control over Palestinian lands and in fact have offered them for peace many times.
