Going from vague memory because I'm too tired to look it up: At the time the provision was writen, there was some incident in Europe some leader who was a foriegn to the country he was in charge of essentially betrayed the country and invited his original country to invade, or something like that.

Anyway, the provision was meant to minimize that possibility over here.

So while I don't think it is likely that a long term naturalized citizen would betray the office, I still think it is best that our president have not the slightest possiblity of divided loyalties.
