In this case, run away- and do it fast. Dale Kemp has the right idea- Go to school. Get a degree in SOMETHING. Go get a nice job. Quit hanging out with Drinky McPrisonWench, and find a nice girl at school.
To seperately address the "ex" thing, though, I have to disagree in MY case. Sometimes it's not that it's milk, sometimes it's more like wine. At first you give it a try and for some reason right then it doesn't agree with you- so maybe some time later you're sifting through the fridge and.. "what is this? this is that wine i had... but this was no good before, surely... hmmm much better now, I could live with this."
I know many people who dated someone, broke up for a while, and then got back together to be very happy for the entire rest of their lives. Only one that pops to mind are friends of my grandparents. They had their 50th anniversary a few months ago and in the cards they sent out as invitations to their wedding vow renewal, they had the story of how they broke up for almost a year- hated each other at first, but then they realized their mistakes and found their love was there the whole time. Got married the next year. Almost made me tear up when I read it.
