Ha... I have the exact same problem too.
My hair is to my nose and I've always had it at least to my ears. It used to be blonde, but I died it black. Ever since I have noticed I'm losing a lot of hair.
My guess is either the hair dye damaged it or I can just notice it better now. Try looking at the hairs and seeing if they have roots on an end or if they are shorter than the rest of your hair, because if so then that means it's breaking in the middles. I use a shampoo for this, Tresemme Total Strength Replenishing Shampoo, because mine does break. Thing is I haven't noticed any improvement. I'm starting to think that it's just more noticable now that it's dark, and is rather normal.
I really started worring about it at first though. I imagined that after I dye my hair and love it I discover the dye damages it and I go bald! LOL.
