Civics? They shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence. Skylines are *the* Japanese muscle car in every sense. They dine on the top of the food chain - Corvettes and the like.
About a decade back, the Skyline GT-R was competing the main Aussie Touring Car championship of the time. They were pounding the snot out of the best "Aussie" V8s of the time. One car rag took a stock GT-R and ran it against a race prepped Holden Commodore SS. It beat it on the track. Consistently.
The GT-Rs are also heavily modded - the standard straight 6 is incredibly strong, and people can easily put it up around 500 - 600 HP without changing the engine internals - just mods to the ECU, intake, turbo, and exhaust system. Japanese hot rodders have taken them into the 750 - 1000+ HP range with new gearboxes, but still on the standard block.
Hopefully it'll drive the price of older models down and I can afford an older one in decent nick.
