NASCAR points system-change it?
There has been a lot of talk about changing NASCAR's point system to reward wins more. I don't think this is a good idea, since inconsistent teams like Ryan Newman's don't really deserve to win if they have 8 or 9 bad finishes to go with 8 wins. I would like to see the 5 points for leading one lap go away since too many teams stay out during cautions to pick up a cheap 5 points. I would also like to see no points awarded past 30th place, just to prevent guys that have problems early from fixing their cars just to try and pick up two or three spots for points. An example of this was Robby Gordon's hood blowing off at Daytona and going in the stands. I would give five extra points to give a small reward for winning the race, but not enough to offset numerous bad finishes.
What would you do to the points system, if anything? Here is my idea of how the points should work
