Lasereth, I completely agree with your rating of movies and games in two different ways, quality and entertainment. I am always describing movies with those terms. I can't even guess how many times I've said, "It's a crappy movie, but go see it. It's entertaining. You'll enjoy it."
Where I disagree with you, is that Boondock Saints is not a quality movie. It's a comic book, just like Army of Darkness. However, AoD was made to entertain. That's all. The movie accomplishes this one hundred percent. Boondock Saints is entertaining in part, but falls far short of "leaving the viewer with a bigger message for them to figure out". Because it tries to do this and fails, the only thing the viewer is left trying to figure out is where the movie went wrong and how it could have been better. After a while, the viewer realizes it's not important. The movie is forgotten till the next time someone else who just saw it for the first time reminds them of what a nice time watching this graphic novel turned motion picture was. And then it's forgotten again.
If you did get a "bigger message" from Boondock Saints, please explain it to me. Sooner or later, I'll probably end up watching it again, and it's always nice to approach it from a different viewpoint.
