Today's College Football Bad Calls
The only game available without coughing up for PPV here is Colorado-Baylor. That in itself sucks ass.
With :09 to go in the 2nd quarter, Baylor down 14-17 with 4th & 6 on their 47 decides to punt the ball. (Why not go for it? Well, it is Baylor after all. Stupid things seem to be the norm there.) They get flagged for a substitution infraction while punting the ball. Colorado has a run-back, during which time expires.
The correct call should have been either: 1) say the play never happened, put :09 back on the clock and march Baylor back 5 yards; or 2) since the offense committed the penalty with under :10 to go, the half ends on the offensive penalty.
What happened? The officials marked off the 5 yards and replayed 4th down as an untimed down! On top of that, Colorado wasn't allowed to decline the penalty!
Untimed downs at the end of a half are for *DEFENSIVE* penalties. Since Baylor had the ball at the time of the penalty, Baylor was on OFFENSE.
It's a good thing that referee crew was in Waco and not somewhere where they could have done real damage!
Of course Baylor, being the chicken-shits they are, took a knee to end the half instead of a shot at the end zone.
