I read this book when it came out. I was in High School.
The only part I remember vividly is the scene where the seagull plucks the dad's eye out. I think the book is a warning for know-it-alls... unfortunately it didn't work on me... I'm still a know-it-all. (I just watch out for seagulls and avoid living in South America.)
