I have never come across that problem before, but it does sound legit. The steps about removing google entries from your hosts file isn't a problem only because there is no reason for them to be there. usualy the only things in your hosts file should be he names/ips of computers on your local network OR maybe the name and ip (127.0.0.1) of the ad networks so that you can block ads.
