The good father frowns. In low tones he warns the party,
"I still think it would be best if we were to stick together. This smiling fool does not have my trust in the slightest."
Smiling he steps forward,
"Kind sir, I would like to offer a gift to your master. Perhaps you take it to him."
Reaching into his pouch he takes the splinter of wood encased in resin that he has used before and holds it out to the man.
This would work either way, if the man refused to touch it then much would be known of his nature and if he took to his master then there might be an edge for them.
Since it would return to the pouch if it was just thrown away the risk was worth it.
