Skiing, all disciplines, gymnastics, all dicsiplines, track and field, all disciplines, swimming, all disciplines are contested at the highest levels in the olympics.
There are others, to be sure, but certainly we can agree that the pinnacle of these endevours is the Olympics.
I love the Olympics. I hate the fact that pro's are now allowed to compete, but c'est la vie. Since those behind the iron curtain kept their athletes amatuer exclusively by maintaining them by the state, it had to happen.
I am getting excited, in fact, for Athens, 2004. Already adjusting my internal clock so I can be on Greece time for those two weeks
As far as adding or subtracting sports...I would really like to see Lacrosse and Rugby returned to the games, and all 'judged' sports elimated. Figure skating, half pipe, syncronized swimming, diving (although diving is awesome)...and even that portion of a sport which is judged as well as scored. Like the nordic ski jump.
Swifter, higher, stronger. Not who's countries judges you can barter with, or pay off the easiest.
If not eliminated, they should at least be contested objectively. And the french should be banned for at least one cycle of games. Disgusting. Can't compete anymore on the international stage as they have become a third world country. They therefore resort to cheating. Pathetic.
