Outboard motor water pump replacement
My father in law recently traded a rusted old excavators trailor for a 17 foot motor boat with a 110hp outboard Mercury 2 stroke engine.
Rumor has it that this boat was originally part of a showcase showdown winners loot on the Price is Right from back in the seventies. It's a pretty fly little water craft which seems fully loaded (sump pump, mags on the trailer and all that nice to have stuff). Anyway to my question at hand....
The Mercury apparently needs to have the water pump replaced...and my question is, has anyone done this before? Any tips or tricks? How do you actually diagnos or confirm this to be the problem? I attached a hose to 'earmuffs' and ran a hose, starter her up and did not have any water 'pissing' out of the little hole it should be. Seems like that would be a water pump to me?
Any and all experiences or suggestions are welcome.
Thanks,
