I'm currently reading a book, GENDER POLITICS AND MTV, by Lisa A. Lewis. Interesting how during the 80's everyone cried RACISM and sexism continued to get overlooked. The book goes over the conception of MTV from it's Warner Bros./Amex days to circa 1990. It highlights the mysogyny of some classic music videos ZZtop, Stray Cats, Michael Jackson, and Jackson Browne. It also gives some insight to Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, Pat Benatar, and Tina Turner, and how they broke the mold for womena and rock 'n' roll.
I recently met the press relations person for Cyndi Lauper, I need to tell her about this book to see if she's read it and get more opinions from her on it's factualness.
