I've never tried it. I'm sure it would be a lot of fun but I've kind of got a mental block about it. After changing peoples' diapers, giving suppositories and enemas the idea of it kind of grosses me out. I'm sure this association could be unlearned in the right context though.
Sorry I can't be of more help. Have you asked your wife exactly what it is about anal play that she doesn't like? Maybe it's the idea that it's taboo or gross or dirty that she doesn't like....
