Absence of desire does not mean apathetic to the idea of life; it means true and deep contentment with what existence does offer. As existence requires metabolism, the Buddhist eats; as existence requires consciousness, the buddhist rises from his bed; as existence requires life, the Buddhist lives until his time expires.
Instead of striving for something, the Buddhist accepts what he already has.
