possibilities....
1: clogged. - maybe just at the first outlet stage where there is a mesh cover to try and keep out larger chunks. Maybe just a screw or two to get this cover off, and cleaned out. Maybe clogged in the impeller itself, or the outflow hose. This will require more taking apart to get at.
2: the impeller (usually plastic) has stripped off the grippy parts that allow it to hold onto the metal motor spindle. Usually the impeller can be replaced as a component (I did mine twice so far) but the dealer will probably try and sell you a pump assemply. If you can get your hands on a blow-up diagram you can possibly find part numbers to make ordering easier.
3: re: valve. My dishwasher uses an electric solonoid to switch the spray to drain valve. I can see if this is moving correctly by removing the lower front cover and watching if it moves correctly during a cycle. Usually accompanied by a fairly clear smack sound.
Could be the solonoid is burnt out and can't move the lever to switch the valve which allows the water to pump out.
Hope this helps.
PS My money would be on #2
