Recipe of the Day - September 17 (french cheese toast)
French Cheese Toast
Ingredients
4 1 1/2 inch thick slices French bread
1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese
1 1/2 cups milk
4 large eggs
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 tsp. oregano
1/8 tsp. garlic powder
2 tsp. salted butter
4 tsp. shredded parmesan cheese (optional)
Preparation
Cut a slit in each slice of bread without cutting all the way through. Stuff each slice with 1/4 cup mozzarella cheese. Press to close.
Combine milk, eggs, salt, pepper, oregano and garlic powder.
Pour mixture over stuffed bread slices, allowing to soak until all liquid is absorbed. (This can be made to this point and refrigerated, covered, overnight.)
Heat butter in large non-stick frying pan over medium heat.
Fry bread slices in butter until golden brown on each side.
Serve hot, sprinkling each slice with 1 tsp. parmesan cheese if desired.
