Beware, Im very, very picky about my firearms and how they are cleaned and how often. So take this with a grain of salt.
It is best if you clean your weapon at a bare minimum everytime you shoot it. Generally I clean my about once a month.
Break free is good, but if you let the weapon sit for any amount of time a residue builds up, and thats never a good thing. I have used Rem Oil and it seems to work very well without leaving any kind of noticable residue.
The best barrel cleaning device I have seen is the Bore Snake. I wouldnt use it on a competition firearm because I dont like the idea of metal on metal when it comes to precision shooting.
