Gen. Clark Considering Hillary Veep Offer
Soon-to-be presidential candidate Gen. Wesley Clark told CNN last week that he wouldn't consider running as any other Democrat's vice president.
But a fresh report claims he's willing to make at least one exception - for New York Sen. Hillary Clinton.
"The talk in top Bill Clinton circles is that retired Gen. Wesley Clark would consider the running mate's job for one candidate only," says U.S. News & World Report's "Washington Whispers."
Citing "key advisers to the former prez," the magazine reports that "a Hillary-Wes ticket, while unlikely, is 'on the table.'"
Last week the ex-president told a group of key fund-raisers gathered at the former first couple's Chappaqua mansion that he thought the Democratic Party had only two real stars: Hillary and Gen. Clark.
Mr. Clinton pointedly left out any mention of the nine Democrats currently seeking the White House, while his wife told the crowd to stay on board "for my next campaign, whatever that may be."
Sen. Clinton has been desperate to burnish her national security credentials, especially in the wake of her husband's admission last year that he turned down a deal for Osama bin Laden's release to the U.S.
Weeks after her husband admitted to the blunder, Sen. Clinton told a New York audience that her top three priorities were "national security, national security and national security."
"Having Clark team up with her would go a long way to reassure independents that the Clintons won't give away the store again," one longtime Hillary watcher told NewsMax.
