You all are forgettting the main thing that made Halo such a great game. The experience. The gameplay is not the only thing that made Halo good, although it certainly didn't hurt.
The music made a great impression. Who can forget the Halo theme? But most importantly, the story. I don't really like FPS games, but when i got the controller in my hands to play Halo, I knew I was playing something revolutionary. The story beats many games on both the PS2 and XBOX. For a FPS, this is phenomenal.
