There is a subtle but important difference between the two. The first targets a religious belief system while the second targets the individuals who hold that belief.
So while the first is harsh, it is marginally acceptable.

Just to add to what Lebell said, you also won't get much mileage unless you explain your position in detail, in my experience. No one cares what you think as much as they care
why you think that. However, if all you have is rhetoric, then you're back to square one.
