AI would need to be more developed by far, but the most exciting gameplay experiences I have are against other people. Multiplayer games will always have the interaction and a sort of intelligence, AI wont have. This does not refer to reflex time, calculations and such, but real strategy. INMO strategy is an art, and in many experiences there is no, one best strategy.
