My mom just reminded my about when she and my dad dropped me off at college. We were waiting in an endless line of cars to unload our stuff in front of the dorm, and there were all these very perky, very blonde RAs doing "dorm cheers" and singing welcome to campus songs. I said "I think I made a mistake."
As it turns out, I made fairly instant friends with a bunch of other morose and cynical outcasts and although the first few weeks (hell, the first six months) were very difficult, and I wanted to transfer out a number of times, I was glad I stayed where I was and gave it a chance.
I hope you hit your stride, and perhaps you can make a place for yourself by lobbying for better internet service.
