My ex and I had that same issue...she basically stayed untrimmed. Major fighting ensued when I asked if she'd try to take better care of it, although I'll admit I wasn't as tactful as I could've been. (stupid booze) But, when I asked to do it for her during some nookie she was perfectly agreeable.
