A car alarm's only use is to make you feel better, and earn money for those that sell them.
When was the last time you heard one, and ran to check it out?
Car alarms work based on the assumption that when the car screams, the thief will run off, becase someone is looking at him. Supposedly, attention, drawn by the noise, will tell the thief his time is running out.
Please, give me a break.
If the alarm makes you feel better, it earned it's money.
If the alarm has nice features: autostart, pop your trunk, roll your windows down, etc. then it wasn't a complete waste of money.
Alpine makes nice alarms. Python is decent.
Insure your car, lock it. Park it under a light. That's all you can do. Any car thief will tell you the same. Everyone else is playing paranoia to sell you something.
