Statistics give you a better idea and understanding of what's actually happening/occuring in this world. If it weren't for research, we wouldn't know that females are more susceptible than men to developing ostereoperosis. (Stating the obvious for you so you don't have to do it again: Just because more females than males get it doesn't mean all get it.) Knowing the numbers overwhelmingly support this, I'm willing to believe it even though it's "uncertain proof" because it's based on statistics/research.
I think most people understand generalizations are not absolute truth. The word general implies that. Are you going to go around the world and nitpick over every fucking generalization?
