I like doing this with shrits I buy at the goodwill. Buy some interesting shirts and spraypaint a cool stencil on them. For stencil ideas, look in magazines and try cutting out the shadows from a portrait. color through what you have cut out on a blank sheet of paper and see how it looks. if it looks ok, enlarge it on a copier.

ive tried spraypainting shirts before.. i generally find if you stencil and then use a roller with some fabric paint it works pretty nicely.
(make sure you put something like thick cardboard inside of it before rolling)
