I've had an LCD monitor but my newest comp is using a 19 in CRT. For gaming purposes CRTs tend to be superior - and they support higher resolutions as well which may or may not be important to you. Of course CRTS are cheaper as well...
As long as you have the space on your desktop, I personally would recommend a CRT if you play any games, especially first person shooters. Though new ones aren't as bad, LCDs still tend to blur with fast movement on the screen. I believe this also effects DVD viewing for instance as well. There are also flat tube CRTs for a bit more money, though they still cost less then LCD.
What type of monitor did you have that died on you? KDS?
