Import cars have better quality because they use better parts, and assembly techniques. They make money from being more efficient.
Any North American assembly plant is capable of building a better cars. The car makers choose to save money with cheaper parts and getting the cars out the door and letting the dealers fix the problems.
I have worked for both Chrysler and Toyota, I drive a Toyota.
