I agree that the 10/22 is a great inexpensive rifle for fun, squirels, rabbits, etc., but the .22 long is underpowered for coyotes.
The Rugar Mini14 (.223) is a good choice for coyotes, but I would buy a Bushmaster Varminter (AR15) before a Mini14 if that was what I needed it for.
